Now that our move to the new medical centre is complete, we finally have the space – both literally and figuratively – to train new healthcare professionals. As of September, our practice has started training two Physician Assistants (PAs): Kimberley and Roy!
A Physician Assistant (PA) is a registered healthcare professional who can independently provide a broad range of medical care, working closely with our GPs. PAs hold their own consultations, take medical histories, perform physical examinations, make diagnoses and treatment plans, request additional tests when needed, and prescribe medication. They can also perform minor medical procedures and provide care for patients with chronic conditions.
During their 2.5-year training programme, Kimberley and Roy will be closely supervised by our GP team. As their training progresses, they will gradually take on more aspects of primary care independently. For complex or uncertain medical issues, they can always consult with or involve one of the GPs.
By training Physician Assistants, we are not only investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals, but also in the future of our practice: increasing our capacity while continuing to provide high-quality, personal primary care in our local community.
Kimberley and Roy introduce themselves on our ‘About us – Who are we – page.
